NO ONE at Blade Show could walk by our new hammer prototype without touching it... so we knew we had to make more.

Some tools earn a permanent spot at the anvil. This is one of them.

The Rounding Hammer is forged from the same proven billet and weight as our Cross-Peen Hammer, making it the perfect tool for drawing out stock, blending hammer marks, and leaving smoother surfaces with every blow.

The rounded face is built for moving material. Use it to draw out stock with a more gradual, directional strike, then use the flat face for planishing and smoothing things out. If you've already done the heavy work with a cross-peen, the rounding face is also great for blending out those marks and cleaning up the surface.

At roughly 2.75 lbs, it's Ryan's preferred all-day forging weight. Enough weight to move steel without feeling like you're swinging a brick by lunchtime.

Each hammer is forged and finished in Ryan's Michigan workshop using HouseMade forges and belt grinders. From forging the head to fitting & finishing the handle, every step is hands-on from start to finish.

  • Forged from 1045 steel made in Detroit, MI
  • Torch-finished American Hickory handle, 12" long
  • Solid walnut wedge for a secure, long-lasting fit
  • Approximately 2.75 lb. head weight
  • Rounded forging face for drawing & moving material
  • Flat face for planishing & finishing
  • Balanced for comfortable, all-day forging
  • Hand forged in Michigan

Why You’ll Love It

Pick it up and the balance is the first thing you'll notice.

Start forging with it and you'll understand why Ryan likes this weight so much.

It's heavy enough to move material without being unnecessarily tiring, and the rounded face gives you a ton of control over where and how you're moving the steel.

Whether you're drawing out bar stock, cleaning up cross-peen marks, planishing with the flat face, or just reaching for the hammer that feels right for the job, this is the one Ryan keeps coming back to.

The process of taking the head from square, to octagonal, to round has become one of his favorite things to forge.

About the Blacksmith
Ryan Brueck is the blacksmith and toolmaker behind Gnome Hammer Forge in Michigan.

Ryan specializes in hand-forged hammers and tools built to be used, not just admired. His work combines traditional forging with a serious attention to balance, finish, and the small details that make a hammer feel right after hours at the anvil.

We've worked with Ryan for years, and his hammers have become a natural extension of the HouseMade lineup: American-made tools, made by people who love to use them.
